We don’t do much complaining here at Autoweek—unless you’re clogging up the left lane—and overall we know we’re very lucky to be in our position. But we’re not quite as lucky as Ford factory drivers Ken Block and Vaughn Gittin Jr., who get an entire abandoned neighborhood to play around in with the new Focus ST. But Ford are obviously looking with interest at the ‘Style’ element of the market place. As people are downsizing in the current recession there are plenty looking for something that still says ‘Individual’ but without the price tag of the premium makers. And it appears as if Ford are seriously considering producing a ‘Style’ version of the Kuga – The Ford Kuga Coupe.
Hyundai are planning to offer more dual clutch gearboxes in their cars rather than going the CVT route. There’s an argument that somehow CVT gearboxes offer better fuel economy than an automated dual clutch ‘box, even though logic says otherwise. Toyota insist on using a CVT ‘box on their hybrid cars when they’d feel much better to drive with an auto or dual clutch ‘box.
